Hello RTV Fanatics Unite fans! From Ricky the Rat, Rufus the Rat Terrier, And of course, me, Catlover04! Hello RTV people, How are you on this sunny but chilly Sunday morning? I'm sure it will get a little warmer as the day goes on... and soon, it will be too hot to want to go outside at all in the afternoon. So I should be taking advantage of this weather now. One day, I will get back into the world of Great American rom coms, but last night, I chose to rent a movie on Prime that I never got to see in theatres when it dropped before Christmas. It's from Angel Studios and it's called "The Shift" Kevin Garner (Kristoffer Polaha) travels across worlds and dimensions to reunite with Molly (Elizabeth Tabish), the love of his life. A mysterious adversary known as "The Benefactor" (Neal McDonough) upends Kevin's world as he tries to escape an alternate dystopian reality. Yes, that is Kristopher Polaha (a Hallmark favorite) you see there. There's Elizabeth Tabish who I know and love as Mary Magdelene in "The Chosen"; Rose Reid, who may not be very famous but I know her from the Karen Kingsbury series "A Thousand Tomorrows". Though his name isn't up top, you also see in that picture someone I know very well: Paras Patel, Matthew on "The Chosen"; Sean Astin, who we know from many things ("Rudy", "Lord Of the Rings"). And Neal McDonough ("Captain America", "The First Avenger", "Suits"), a long-time character actor who is well-known for keeping his marriage vows pure by never playing the leading man in movies: he doesn't ever want to have a love interest in a film, which would make him feel like he's cheating on his lovely wife. Which I think is admirable... and sweet. But he sure isn't a sweet character here! He is the Benefactor, aka Satan. This looks like science fiction (dystopian on the surface) but what it really is, is a retelling of the book of Job from the Bible. Now, if you are not familiar with the Biblical Job, you might not get it. You might just see a strange sy/fy movie. How would a strong man of faith handle it if he loses everything: his wife; his son. The world he knows and is successful in has been dropped into a "sideways" world where all traces of God have been removed, so no one has any hope. People sometimes dismiss faith-based movies as being low budget and not well acted. Not true of this movie. The acting is incredible. Neal McDonough is creepy and scary and perfect in his role. Kristopher Polaha is Kevin, our Job. In real life Kristopher is a strong man of faith, so this is a perfect fit. I enjoyed it, and actually might watch it again before the rental expires. It was a fascinating watch. That was my Saturday night. So, what about our TV week THIS week? Sunday, April 7th "When Calls The Heart", Season 11 Episode 1, 9 pm on Hallmark The new season of "When Calls the Heart" is beginning tonight. This might be my only mention because if I post synopses for each episode, I'm going to spoil the season for Ali and I really do not wish to do that. So I will refrain. I feel bad that we were so open with our discussions last season and gave everything away for her. But I AM excited for what's to come. You know where I'll be at 9 pm. Remember, any comments we make about this show on the Daily Page will need to be "spoiler tagged". Let's try not to ruin everything for Ali. Monday, April 8th No new "MasterChef Junior" again tonight.... ... however, the CW something new that looks interesting: "Sight Unseen: Tess", Season 1 Episode 1, 9 pm on The CW Homicide detective Tess Avery, diagnosed as blind, teams up with Sunny Patel, a remote guide, to solve crimes; using tech and trust, they tackle cases while challenging notions of ability and boundaries. Another Canadian show making it's way onto US television. You guys will have to tell me if it's any good. "Deal or No Deal Island: Are You Decisive?", Season 1, Episode 7, 10 pm on NBC The island's tranquility shatters when tensions boil over and personalities clash in the players' pursuit of the big prize. I'm committed to finishing this season. I have enjoyed it; however, there is some talk out there that the producers of the show are going out of their way to protect Boston Rob and his alliance. Two weeks in a row, Alyssa (an alliance member) was the target. Two weeks in a row, a twist came around to save her. The issue last episode was that case that didn't really need to be opened. The girl who was playing against the Banker had it under control; poised to beat him. Also poised to send Alyssa home. To some, it felt like "We are only going to make them open the case (this was a non-elimination twist) if it looks as though the banker will lose." What benefit was it to the player up against the banker to open that case? NONE whatsoever! Shouldn't it have been HER decision whether to open it or not? If she felt she was in danger of losing, open it to see if it would help. I don't know.... I think it's a fun show. But I COULD see their point. Especially after last week when I really did feel like a twist came out of nowhere to save Alyssa. (By the way, I'm really not an Alyssa fan and wish she would leave ASAP. Something about her bugs me.) Tuesday, April 9th "Will Trent: We Are Family", Season 2 Episode 6, 8 pm on ABC Will reunites with a long-lost relative, uncovering unexpected and profound similarities; the GBI and APD investigate a judge's murder; Faith's connection with Luke deepens. I hear we are getting a season three of this quirky little show. "The Rookie: Secrets and Lies", Season 6 Episode 6, 9 pm on ABC Following their time as foster parents, Bailey wants to have a baby and forces John to reconsider their decision to not have children; John and Celina discover a prison escapee whom they fear is out for revenge and race to find her. Forces? Funny word to use when talking about whether or not to have a baby. They didn't have an open discussion where both parties are able to express their feelings on such a huge subject? Will this mean trouble ahead for Nolan and Bailey? I know... this will make WM happy if Bailey gets mad and leaves. Wednesday, April 10th "Survivor 46: Episode Several", Episode 7, 8 to 9:30 pm on CBS A rogue vote at the last tribal council launches a blame game throughout camp; players must keep their balance to keep their game alive and win immunity. Yes, the episode is REALLY titled "Episode Several". Jalinsky lives on! And will probably NEVER escape the concept of "Several means seven". Funny. "The Amazing Race: Save the Stress for Later", Season 36 Episode 5, 9:30 pm on CBS To begin this leg of the race in Santiago, Chile, teams search for Marilyn Monroe's iconic Thunderbird car to receive their next clue. Marilyn Monroe's Thunderbird is parked in Chile? Who knew? (Still in South America....) Thursday, April 11th "Ghosts: The Polterguest", Season 3 Episode 7, 8:30 pm on CBS Alberta hits it off with a poltergeist who is attached to a newly arrived Woodstone guest; Isaac and Nigel have separate bachelor parties. Our chat for this one seems to have gotten lost. Sorry. I am caught up though. "Next Level Chef: Bingo, Bango, Bento", Season 3 Episode 12, 8 pm on Fox The seven remaining chefs work individually to create Japanese-inspired dishes for their bento boxes; one judge oversees the chefs during the elimination challenge, while two judges blindly taste test their creations. ... it's just that I really love NLC. Fun take on a cooking show. I'm all in for this. "So Help Me Todd: End on a High Note", Season 2 Episode 5, 9 pm on CBS Margaret and Todd defend international opera star, supreme diva and Lyle's mother, Jaqueline. The opera singer is Lyle's MOM? How fun! Maybe she can duet with Todd (Skylar Astin), an accomplished opera singer in his own right outside of this show. "Elsbeth: Love Knocked Off" Season 1 Episode 4 at 10 pm on CBS Things turn deadly when elite matchmaker Margo Clarke goes to extreme lengths to keep her socialite client from finding out the truth about her perfect new husband; when the husband goes missing, Capt. Wagner assigns Elsbeth and Kaya to investigate. If we continue the format used by this show, we will know what happened to the husband right at the start: the fun will be watching Elsbeth and Kaya figure out the mystery. For me, this is sort of like reading the last page of a novel, so you know how the book ends before you read it. People do that, but I've never understood why. Despite that, this show has been pretty enjoyable. I love quirky characters and they don't come much quirkier than Elsbeth. Friday, April 12th Can't think of anything we need to delay-watch tonight. Anyone?
These are my rat musings for the day. If anyone has anything to add, please do so in the comments.
