As promised, a recap of the episode which featured four players very familiar to all of us on this site. (In case you need a reminder, the four were:
*Long-time "Survivor" fan favorite Stephanie LaGrossa (married now with three kids...nice) *From "Big Brother": veteran of much reality TV (much, much - some would argue TOO much), the always-running-on-high-emotion Rachel Reilly (she mentioned that she actually won "Fear Factor". This is something I did not know. Me either! Rachel? On "Fear Factor"?? WTH???). *Also from "Big Brother", Janelle Pierzina, who I know very little about. WM will have to fill us in (it's so appropriate that Janelle is playing with Cirie and Stephanie. Like those two formidable females, Janelle is widely considered the finest Big Brother veteran to never win a season. Funny, of all this talent, the only actual game winner is.... the least talented Rachel. Seems so wrong!) And of course, long-standing "Survivor" fan favorite Cirie Fields. I don't know any Survivor lover who is not also a fan of Cirie's. Quick reminder of how this show works: four strangers (that's debatable; certainly didn't apply last night) are dropped into the wild, thinking they are there to win $100,000. The twist is - one of them is a "snake", whose purpose is to sabotage the game for the rest. The other three learn about this "snake" when informed by host Bobby Bones upon arrival. The snake's goal of is to successfully sabotage the game without giving them self away. The game ends with a mini "tribal council". If the three players vote for the actual snake, they split the hundred grand between themselves. But if the snake successfully fools them (as we saw Malcolm do a couple of weeks ago) then that player keeps all the money for them self. What made this episode fun was that while these women were not strangers, they are all iconic in the RTV world, for one reason or another. So let's talk about what happened. Or if you'd rather, check out this interview that Dalton Ross did with the ladies. Haven't listed to it yet, but plan to: Survivor, Big Brother stars spill Snake in the Grass secrets | EW.com When the ladies first arrive, they are made aware that there is a game, which immediately throws them for a loop. They are given a revealing first clue, something about "fishing a lot as a youngster" and "cheering on their favorite team" (cheerleader?) when a little older. I immediately took Cirie off my suspicion list with this news. Can't imagine her loving to fish at any point in her young life. Cirie's a pure city girl! First challenge: I can't recall all the details, but it was a physically demanding event that really required a lot of upper body strength, strong arms. They all became a little suspicious because the one you'd expect to do best on a challenge like this (I mean, she became a tribe of ONE on her first Survivor season!) really struggled with the challenge. The loss caused them to forfeit the money. They are informed that they did not earn the second clue, which instead would be hidden back at camp. They get back to camp and Stephanie runs ahead because she spots something in a tree. She must get to it first! She grabs it and runs off to hide. After reading the note, she says "I can't let them read this. It's a dead giveaway. It reads "I became a tribe of one on a legendary TV show" #HeeHeeHee. I am the SNAKE! I need to hide this where they won't find it!" This is what you saw me post on the daily page: "Can't believe they told us who the snake is midway through the episode!" But after finishing the watch, it kind of made sense to me. In the next few minutes, we watched a mini-version of what Lisa Welchel went through for 39 days on Survivor Philippines. Stephanie had a moment of panic (which caused a lot of strong emotion) that being a snake is NOT who she is. She doesn't behave this way. "What about the example I'm setting for the kids? I can't let them see me lying and betraying people. I'm a competitor! I play to win, not to sabotage." Okay, I may have made some of that up but you get the point. I saw a blurb on Dalton's interview that she didn't know she was the snake until about four hours before they started filming. Seems they don't know when they sign up. This is news to me too. Steph had a very real moment of personal crisis which reminded me of Lisa, but she got over it fairly quickly and focused instead on trying to win the game. The problem: Stephanie really is not a good liar. The women questioned her about why she ran ahead. Why she ran so deep into the jungle (to bury the clue). Her answers were very scattered and didn't make a lot of sense. She only managed to make herself look more guilty. Cirie, her friend outside the game, didn't want to believe it. She and Rachel spoke for a minute to consider that it might be Janelle. But Rachel could not shake the idea that Stephanie ran into the jungle for SOME reason. She and the other two went on a hunt that lasted until long after dark to find that clue. Snake Stephanie encouraged them to give it up and come back to rest. But Rachel was convinced that Stephanie had buried a clue and was intent on finding it. This eventually resulted in tears. Heh. Imagine that - Rachel and tears! The final challenge was in a boat. Stephanie tried flipping the boat to keep them from winning the money, but didn't succeed this time. At the vote, Stephanie tried her best to divert the guilt onto Janelle. It didn't succeed. At this point the other three were already convinced who the snake was. So Steph didn't get the win this time. Seriously, I'm sure the interview is entertaining. Plan to listen and might have more to say in the comments. There is your answer, Windbag Mark. A bit scattered maybe, but it was a fun episode. Stephanie LaGrossa was the Snake. But she couldn't fool the tribe.
