Hello The Amazing Race fans, Episode synopsis reads like this: "The final five teams race through Siem Reap, Cambodia, where they face the second and final double U-turn of the season."
AND in case you missed our joint commentary about this show so far... here is a replay: Only one episode tonight, and without #TeamBlondeBandits to kick around any more, the Mine Five will finally have to stop playing the "alliance game" and turn on each other. YES! I am with all of you - HATE that this season was taken over by five teams, rendering the act of "racing" useless for all the others. I mean... it's a RACE. Only ONE can win. Each team should have an equal shot to succeed, not be ganged up on by an alliance like that. But.. is it against The Amazing Race rules? (Nope). Don't think it is or ever HAS been. We've seen teams work together before to finish a difficult task - often that's a great strategy. A few times we've seen two or three teams stick together early in the game. But have we ever seen five teams stay so close to the end before? Perhaps the producers of TAR (like the ones on "Survivor") want the race to develop organically, without any interference by them of the choices made by the racers. A noble goal. Still, it definitely takes away from the enjoyment of the show when the result of a leg would clearly be determined in advance based on who was still in the game. If there ISN'T a rule against alliances, maybe there should be. I can't say #TeamBlondes were my FAVORITE team (though they win a ton of points for being such great sports and having a fantastic attitude throughout). But it was simply brutal watching them get yielded twice after having such bad luck with taxis and getting lost and all. Do I think they deserved to win the race? No... not at all. They finished last twice and both times got saved by a non-elimination leg (well, to be fair, that could be considered a karmic balancing act: they had great luck with NELs but horrible luck with bad cabbies. Both of these circumstances are beyond their own control. And we should mention that the first TAR Canada winners, father-and-son #TeamTimAndTim, were also saved by two NELs, and nobody had a bad word to say about that). But did they deserve to be ganged up on like that? Absolutely not. To "yield" the one team that were in last place on consecutive episodes - for no other reason than to protect your alliance - is horribly unfair. It's a RACE, people! Worry about your own game, not about anyone else's. And if you are going to use a yield, use it for the right reason: to hold up a strong team who is closest behind you. It's ridiculous to stop the one team that will never catch you, regardless of the yield. (And the most troubling sign: this new "alliance" strategy WORKED! The alliance formed in episode one did indeed turn out to be the final five. You can't help but feel all futures teams will want to repeat this, just to increase their chances of making it to the final five (or four, or three). So now, like "Survivor" and "Big Brother" and others, the top priority on episode one will be to instantly form a partnership based almost exclusively on age and physical appearance. TAR used to be fair to older racers, or players not in tip top physical condition. I hate the idea that this won't be the case any more). Rant over. Sorry I missed that last chat. But I'll be home in plenty of time for this week. Who wants to live race "The Amazing Chat" at 8 pm?
