Hello RTV Fanatics Unite fans! From Ricky the Rat, Rufus the Rat Terrier, And, of course me, Catlover04! Hello RTV people, Hope you all are well on this beautiful Sunday morning. Trying to figure out what I can ramble on about this morning... other than the weather. Hmm. Oh - some cancellations were announced this week. In a stunning shocker, the CBS bowling sitcom "How We Roll" didn't get a second season! A show with an overdone laugh track used on unfunny jokes! Can't imagine why that turned people off (where is that sarcasm font when you need it?) I AM shocked about "Magnum PI". On the TVLine Renewal Scorecard it has been listed as a "sure bet". And I actually like the show, though I had fallen behind watching. But I must wonder how it went from a "sure bet" to "cancelled". Curious. In a separate article, the cast is taking it well, but they fully expected a renewal based on great Friday night ratings and the fact that it "travels well internationally" (this from Magnum himself, Jay Hernandez). Some never cared for Jay as Magnum. But I liked him. If you watched this as an original without comparing it to the earlies-eighties Tom Selleck show, it was quite entertaining, with some great story lines. CBS really missed on this one. I predict fan backlash for their decision. Also, most of what is airing on The CW has been cancelled. This is interesting to me because I recently read that the CW is up for sale. Nothing has been announced regarding any potential buyers, but it seems odd that more than half the shows have been axed. I've never been a fan of the CW anyway, so it doesn't really affect me - it's just something I found intriguing. My daughter used to like "The Flash" which was renewed for season nine (and even SHE thinks it has gone on on longer than it needed to). There's also "Riverdale": I've never seen a single episode but know it has a pretty large fan base. "Superman and Lois": heard of, never seen. And it's renewed "Kung Fu"? Huh? Didn't even know there WAS a reboot of that show! How can you have "Kung Fu" without David Carridine? Heh. But clearly some heard the news because it's getting a season two. Will be interesting to see who takes it over and how the new network owners will proceed in the future. I was using the TVLine renew scorecard which routinely gets updated when any news is released. If you are interested, here is a link: Cancelled TV Shows List: 2022 Renewal Scorecard | TVLine Moving on to THIS week... Sunday, May 15th "When Calls The Heart", 8 pm on Hallmark Yes, I have caught up to the current season just in time to watch the final two episodes with the rest of the world. How does one make it through nearly nine seasons in just a few weeks (Well, that's not completely accurate. I began watching about three months ago but got sidetracked after the first couple of seasons. Returned to season three a few weeks back)? Especially odd for someone who doesn't really have any daytime hours for viewing. I don't know. No ads, so each ep is about fourty-five minutes long. Most of the seasons were ten to twelve episodes. I'm pretty great at multi-tasking when binging so maybe it didn't have my FULL attention, but it had enough to follow the story. Now I will get to enjoy - for the first time ever - seeing a new episode air with the rest of the show's fan base. Weird watching the evolution of a nine-year show in the space of about a month. Characters come and go; sometimes in a confusing way. I've not always agreed with how some of the stories were handled but never disagreed enough to feel the essence of the show was hurt. And for fans of the books: the TV show was not the same story as the source material at all. I recently dug out one volume (containing four books) to re-read just for comparison. I want to see how the TV show is different from Jeannette Oke's lovely original story. This will be one of my summer goals. "The Rookie: A Day In The Hole", Season 4 Episode 22, 10 pm on ABC Episode synopsis reads like this: Officer Nolan is forced to spend a week in solitary confinement in a quiet border town with a young local officer who is in need of some training; Sgt. Bradford and Officer Chen go under cover together in a possible drug trafficking case. Season finale, and this one WILL get a season five for sure. No surprise there - because Nolan is about to become a training officer! The show will still be about rookies! Monday, May 16th This is a wide-open night for me. Unless anyone wanted to have a three-hour watch of the "Downton Abby" movie from a couple of years ago, on NBC. I have actually never seen the film... ... although I DID like the original PBS series; just never caught this movie. If anyone cares to join me for this, I might be open. If no one is interested, I might just watch it on Peacock (no ads!) at some point. Let me know (I'm assuming it's there, anyway. Should check before I make this claim). Tuesday, May 17th "Holey Moley: Bear, Bear, BEAR!" Season 4, Episode 3, 8 pm on ABC Episode synopsis reads like this: Golfers test their putting skills on Corn Hole, The Distractor and The Pecker to earn a spot in the finals. OOOH! The "Distractor" is back! That was always my favorite part of season one; not sure why they didn't keep it consistently. "This Is Us: The Train" Season 6 Episode 17, 9 pm on NBC Episode synopsis reads like this: The Pearsons gather around Rebecca's bedside. We knew this day was coming. Must emotionally prepare myself... it will be sad to watch. But so far, they have really handled the finish of this series beautifully: mournfully, of course, but with just a touch of humour (thanks to Beth and Madison) for appropriate balance. Wednesday, May 18th "Survivor Season 42: Caterpillar to a Butterfly", Episode 11, 8 pm on CBS Episode synopsis reads like this: Only six castaways remain, and one is on the wrong side of the vote; one castaway climbs the stairway to victory and wins immunity at tribal council. That episode title MUST be about Maryanne, right? If so, another hint of her season victory... which will annoy me because I think Lindsay deserves it so far. I know Windbag Mark thinks Omar should win. Either one would be a better winner than Maryanne. Moving on... "Beyond the Edge: One More Challenge", Season 1 Finale, 9 pm on CBS Episode synopsis reads like this: After an inspiring and challenging season filled with emotion, only a few celebrities remain in the running to be named the winner and raise the most money for their charity. Season finale. One of the alpha males pictured above will win. The announcer will continue to be the weak link of the show. Let's put it out of it's misery. The only possible shock tonight might be learning that it will be back next spring for a season two. "So You Think You Can Dance", Season 17 Premiere, 9 pm on Fox After a long, long time, we finally have a new season. Will anyone care to chat? Must say, my track record for watching competition shows has been pretty bad this year. Started "American Idol"... got lost somewhere in the middle and didn't keep up. Started "The Masked Singer" and again, didn't keep up (though I will probably finish it at some point). I think with TMS, it's just a lot more fun with a chat - and since we didn't get one going this season, I had trouble staying interested (same issue with "To Tell The Truth": fun show with a chat, but not without one). Watched one episode of "Beyond the Edge" and had zero interest in continuing. What is happening to me? Is my love for RTV competition shows becoming a thing of the past? Will start this show and see how it goes. Also plan to watch AGT when it begins in a couple of weeks. We'll see how THAT goes too. Thursday, May 19th "Masterchef Junior Edition: Total Egg-streme", Season 19 Episode 10, 8 pm, Fox Episode synopsis reads like this: The chefs must create a dish with an egg of their choice, ranging from a quail egg to an ostrich egg; the winning chef earns immunity and decides the order in which the other contestants will choose a cut of steak in an "Operation" style game. This show is coming to its finale soon, and an "adult" version will begin right after. Will try harder to initiate a chat for the second version. I know we used to have quite a few who enjoyed this show. Can we find some who wish to play along? "Big Sky: Catch A Few Fish", Season 2 Episode 18, 10 pm on ABC Episode synopsis reads like this: Jenny works to find Travis before he reaches a dangerous point of no return; Ren and Jag find a new familial bond and decide how to handle their father now that he's crossed a serious line; Cassie changes the course of her quest for justice forever. Good news for fans of this show... there WILL be a season three! Last week's previews introduced a well-groomed new sheriff. And grooming is important on this show. Friday, May 13th "Raising Dion", Season 2: Beginning with Episode 4 Season two is off to a great start... and since we know this will be the SERIES finale, they had BETTER resolve everything in this plot before it ends. Will be very upset if they leave any cliffhangers. Now, I AM planning to do this on Friday; however, daughter will be home for summer by then. I actually have a busier-than-normal weekend planned: Saturday and Sunday both booked solid, with a play scheduled for Saturday and tickets for a worship concert on Sunday. This is quite unusual for me to have so much happening at once. Anyway, if I need to miss this week, I'll let you know. These are my rat musings for the day. If anyone has anything to add, please do so in the comments. Hello RTV People, If you are all caught up on anything you care about from last night's TV, you are safe to enter. Hello RTV Fanatics Unite fans! From Ricky the Rat, Rufus the Rat Terrier, And, of course me, Catlover04! Hello RTV people! And to all of our mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, mother-in-laws - whatever kind of mother you are, we wish you a wonderful day! I need the sun to come out and the threat of more rain to go away since we have outdoor plans. Yes, they could easily be moved inside but still hoping for some prettier weather than we've had all weekend. It has been unpredictable. Looking at a list of summer premiere dates. So little to look forward to. Am I losing interest in TV in general, I wonder? We do have a couple of things: "So You Think You Can Dance" premieres on May 18th "Masterchef" (the adult version) premieres on May 25th "America's Got Talent" premieres on May 31st "Lego Masters" also premieres on May 31st. "Stranger Things" will be released on Netflix on May 27th. "The Orville" will finally resume on Hulu on June 2nd (do Canadians have access?) If not, since so few get Hulu, will I watch? Yet to be determined. I was hit-or-miss with this show (Will it depend on whether Lieutenant Alara is back, now that she doesn't have another gig on "Prodigal Son"?). If anyone cared to catch it here in the US, you could do a free trial of Hulu (5.99/month), then cancel it when you are done. Canadians may have access another way. You guys will have to let me know. "American Ninja Warrior" premieres on June 6th. "Evil" will release a new season on Paramount Plus on June 12th. (No thank you.. too scary for me). But I know some of you liked it... **I was looking at an EW list. Here's a link if you want to check it out: 2022 TV premiere dates: Complete guide to new and returning shows | EW.com Of course, we should also have some international "Survivor" to look forward to. Maybe a new South Africa AND another Australian? Will see if I can find any info. And quite a bit on that list I have never heard of, so maybe some research could be done to see if I DO have any interest. Question: Is the "Welcome to Plath" listed for TLC as a summer show the same "Welcome to Plath" that has been on Fox, or something different? TLC usually doesn't do scripted so must check this out. Now, lets take a look at this week's TV fun... Sunday, May 8th "The Rookie: Mother's Day", Season 4 Episode 21, 10 pm on ABC Episode synopsis reads like this: Sgt. Grey supports Officer Nolan's desire to become a training officer and offers to ride with him for the day to get him ready; Tim and Lucy decide on their plans for Mother's Day and a romantic vacation. So I guess season five will be "Training Officer" Nolan and not "Rookie" Nolan. This will allow him to train a rookie of his own! Monday, May 9th Unless I decide to drop into the final episodes of "American Idol" - which could happen - I see an evening of "When Calls the Heart" for my Monday. I am now a couple of episodes into season seven. Season nine is currently airing so maybe by the time it's over, I'll be caught up and can catch season ten in live time with the rest of the world. Whimsicali, I left you a large comment on yesterday's page about my thoughts on this show, in case you missed it. I won't bore everyone here with it... but just wanted to let you know. Tuesday, May 10th "Holey Moley, You're Going To Need A Lawyer!" Season 4, Episode 2, 8 pm on ABC Episode synopsis reads like this: Contestants compete on The Fishing Hole, Polecano, Dutch Courage En Fuego and Big Foot Wedge. Off to a fun start! Such a goofy this show is. You watch it for the giggles, not to take it seriously (for those who have never seen it before). Yes, it's a competition, and someone is declared the winner, but it's goofy competition. (And as we hoped, last week's "Muppets" plot line was just a one-episode thing) "This Is Us: Family Meeting" Season 6 Episode 16, 9 pm on NBC The Big Three make a plan for Rebecca. They seem to be on the "less is more" version of synopsis-writing for This Is Us It does feel like we are getting down to the final episode. Last week's look at the life of Miguel was an emotional one. Our running joke with this show has always been "Don't forget the tissues". I have a feeling the last few episodes will fall into that category for sure. So whatever you do... do NOT forget those tissues (I sure needed one last week). Wednesday, May 11th "Survivor Season 42: Battle Royale", Episode 11, 8 pm on CBS Episode synopsis reads like this: One castaway drops out of the immunity challenge, leaving their fate up to chance. Just who would do such a thing? Heh. Does anyone have a serious winner pick at this point? We are all joking about a Maryanne victory... but do any of us seriously think she WILL? I think I'm rooting most for Lindsay at this point. And it wouldn't be a bad play for her to KEEP Jonathan around. She has proven she can beat him in challenges (even though for a while there, he seemed unbeatable). She has proven herself stronger at strategy. They are both pretty good socially, but I think overall as Survivor player, Lindsay is more the full package than he is. If it came down to the two of them, I really think she could take him in the end. Thoughts? Once again, I have completely forgotten what the preview for this upcoming week showed. WM? I've sort of missed our duo synopsis writing of this show. A little. (I've forgotten myself. Couldn't have been anything particularly memorable then) "Beyond the Edge: Ask A Monkey for Help", Season 1 Episode 9, 9 pm on CBS Episode synopsis reads like this: As five celebrities race to traverse a swamp during the Snake Eggs adventure challenge, one experiences physical ailments that make them consider ringing the bell. Bottom line: we're down to five players, and the two alpha males have such an insurmountable lead over the other three it makes no sense continuing. Time to pull the plug. "Domino Masters: The Sky's the Limit, Season 1 Finale, 9 pm on Fox Episode synopsis reads like this: It's time for the finale, as three teams build whatever they want, working around the pre-existing finish line arch; the team whose topple comes out on top wins the $100,000 prize. Can't wait to see what our Domino Masters come up with for the finale. Rooting for the Dominerds, I think, just because they are so young compared to some of the others. And so clever. Their last build was tremendous fun to watch topple. I was about the say "fall down" but "topple" is the correct term for this. Thursday, May 12th "Masterchef Junior Edition: The Big Bake Sale", Season 19 Episode 9, 8 pm on Fox Episode synopsis reads like this: The eight remaining junior chefs split into teams for a bake sale challenge; one member of the losing team goes home. We learned this week that EJetson is not a fan of A'Dan. I like this show but I still find it very hard to believe that these young kids knows so much about cooking. Most of them seem to know more than I do; which isn't saying much but... still fun to watch. Love little Ivey the most. And little Molly. "Big Sky: Family Matters", Season 2 Episode 17, 10 pm on ABC Episode synopsis reads like this: A concerned Jenny searches for Travis; Scarlett, desperate to protect her daughter, makes an unexpected phone call that could change the course of more than one life; Jag finds out the truth about his father. Wondering what the truth about dad is - he has a fatal disease and must decide which of his children to leave the cartel to? No decision there; Ren is by far the better choice, and it sets her up for her own spin-off show when a new story arc is introduced for season three! Friday, May 13th "Raising Dion", Season 2: Finally! Wait, didn't we do this LAST WEEK? Nope. Big storm in my neck of the woods last Friday knocked the power out for the entire evening. So we shall try again to begin this THIS week. We'll see what happens. These are my rat musings for the day. If anyone has anything to add, please do so in the comments. And again..
