Hello RTV Fanatics Unite fans! From Ricky the Rat, Rufus the Rat Terrier, And of course me, Catlover04! Hello RTV people, How are you on this fine, cool, promising-to-be-a-beautiful-day Sunday morning? Fall is here and with it some new fall television - well, what little "new" there is. But what new there is will be FUN! Yes, there will be pretty minimal original "scripted". Luckily, we have our two favorite reality shows, "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race" starting up this week. We also have a never-ending slew of romantic comedies (which somehow didn't seem affected by the writer's strike at all). Last night's offering on Great American Family was much fun. But what makes it even more amusing is when I get to compare it to a more famous rom com with obvious similarities. Enjoy a movie and play a home-made game in a genre I love (and acknowledge that I've watched WAY too many Hollywood rom coms!) Last night's movie was entitled "Craft Me A Romance". It's direct predecessor was 1994's "You've Got Mail" . The story line was so similar I couldn't stop comparing. Of course it wasn't EXACTLY the same. There was no anonymous friendship as the undercurrent of the story (the case with "You've Got Mail"). It was a small, family-owned "craft" store being threatened by a national chain, not a bookstore. But the place, called "Crafty Companion", was literally the shop around the corner (the name of Meg Ryan's store in "You've Got Mail"). That's where the big box chain, "Mitchell's Craft Store" was building their new location. Naturally, the film used that phrase multiple times. Crafty Companion is a small store owned by Nicole and her brother, Eric (who is more of a silent partner; his primary job is as a local cop). Nicole inherited the shop from her parents (both have passed away). She was determined to carry on their vision for the store in their name: providing services such as crafting classes to keep the community involved, and driving in new business all the time. The Meg Ryan character did exactly that: "They don't provide any services... we DO!" Similarly, Meg inherited the store from her deceased mother, and was determined to honor her memory by honoring HER vision. The big box chain craft store is owned by a father/son team. When they learned of Crafty Companion (that "troublesome craft shop around the corner"), they decided they need to squash it before it becomes a problem. Son Matthew Mitchell is sent into the small store to check out this competition and figure out a way to get rid of it - just like Tom "Joe Fox" Hanks did ("My name is Joe"; Hanks character refused to give his last name so she wouldn't figure out who he was). Matthew doesn't give his last name either, for the same reason. But inevitably, when he enters the store for the first time, Matthew is captivated by Nicole - much in the same way Joe was captivated with Kathleen. That meant telling her who he was would be out of the question. Father Mitchell is the "heartless" villain (the same way father Fox was in "You've Got Mail"), demanding that Matthew squash the little store quickly or he'd do it himself. But Matthew really likes Nicole and doesn't want to hurt her, so he seeks a way to tell her on his own who he is and why he is there. Of course, they have three or four dates and begin falling deeply in love. Of course, her brother and best friend / business partner Sarah find out and demand he tell her himself or they would. No spoilers, but I can say that the comparison ends there. The movie was quite fun. You might recognize the star in the picture posted above, famous as the obnoxious "Full House" middle child, little Stephanie Tanner: Jodie Sweetin! I enjoyed this one a lot, and I'm sure I'll watch it again if the opportunity presents itself. We do have some new TV fun this week, so how about we move on.... Sunday, September 24th "The Chosen: Matthew 4:24" Season 2 Episode 3, 8 pm to 9:30 pm on the CW A long, exhausting day turns into night as the disciples help Jesus deal with a large crowd hoping to be healed. Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is pictured above. Here to meet her son's followers and help where she can. Because that's what mothers do. "Big Brother", Season 25, Episode 23, 8 pm on CBS Not going to bother with the "Yellowstone" announcement except to say... it IS bumping "Big Brother" to 10 pm again this week. Tonight we will see all the behind-the-scenes action there wasn't time to televise on Thursday night. And hopefully find out how this "zombie" twist is going to play out..... "When Calls the Heart: Deep Water", Season 10 Episode 9, 9 pm on Hallmark. Everyone helps Rosemary as the governor visits early; Nathan is called away to help with land trouble, only to find himself in unexpected danger and with surprising intel. Elizabeth is looking quite traumatized in that picture. Wonder what's UP in this episode. Visits from the governor wreak havoc everywhere they go. And when it's unexpectedly EARLY, well.... you can't blame Rosemary for being traumatized. Monday, September 25th "The Voice", Season 24 Premiere, Blind Auditions Begin, 8 to 10 pm on NBC The first "Blake Shelton-less" season ever. How will it be, I wonder? I'll probably watch; anyone care to join me? I imagine it WILL feel a lot different without any Blake banter. #BlakeBanter Tuesday, September 26th "Dancing With the Stars", Season 32 Episode 1 Premiere, 8 to 10 pm on ABC A new cast of celebrities and their pro partners hit the dance floor for the first time to perform a Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Jive, Salsa or Tango; featuring a dazzling opening number to "Levitating" by Dua Lipa. Back to the network we go, after a season of being banished to Disney Plus. No more Tyra Banks as host is a plus. Sadly, no Len Goodman as a judge either, as he passed away in April. This is another show that may feel different but I'll check it out. Anyone else? Of course, at the same time I have the week's second episode of "The Voice". Wonder if I'll be motivated to do both? And will anyone be motivated to chat along with either? Anyone? Wednesday, September 27th The night we've all been waiting for.... "Survivor: We Can Do Hard Things", Season 45 Episode 1, 8 to 9:30 pm on CBS We are just three days away from the premiere of a new season of Survivor. Finally, an opportunity for an active Live Chat. But tonight there's not just Survivor.... (Psst... btw, if you haven't visited the official Survivor blog page... please do. I don't want to feel like I've wasted a lot of my time. #HeeHeeHee) RTV Fanatics Unite - Survivor (weebly.com) "The Amazing Race" is BACK!", Season 35 Premiere, 9:30 pm to 11 pm. on CBS For the first time, a former team surprises racers as judges; one team member must traverse a tightrope stretched from one rooftop to another at the historic Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles before heading to their first location, Thailand. Won't it be fun to have back-to-back, ninety-minute episodes of both "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race"? These two shows are really the reason this site exists! (Psst... there was also a preview page for TAR, in case you missed it!) The Amazing Race Season 35 - A Look At The Cast - RTV Fanatics Unite (weebly.com) Wednesday night on RTV Fanatics Unite is the place to be, if you ask me! Of course, there is also "The Masked Singer" but since no one else cares.... I won't bother. Thursday, September 28th ABC seems to be doubling up on "The Bachelor" this fall... "The Golden Bachelor" AND "Bachelor In Paradise"... 8 pm and 9 pm on ABC
Uh, 8 P.M. and 9 P.M? Both shows have been reduced from two hours to one? Pretty sure this is a first in "Bachelor" history - and I, for one, am completely down with it! "Big Brother", Season 25, Episode 19, 8 pm on CBS Wait! If this is the eviction episode... when did the veto happen? We will find out on Sunday when the explanation of the "zombie" twist happens. Our guess is that both booted players from last Thursday's "double eviction" episode will come back and compete against each other to win a return to the house. It should be revealed tonight. "The Challenge USA: Enemy of the State" Season 2 Episode 11, 10 pm on CBS Anyone still watching? I think I forgot to do a page for it last week. Whoops. Friday, September 29th By now, we will have TWO episodes of season sixteen "Heartland" to catch up on. Perhaps on this Friday? Episodes eleven and twelve. Ready whenever you are. These are my rat musings for the day. If anyone has anything to add, please do so in the comments. Hello RTV People, As I'm sitting here drinking my Pumpkin Spice flavored coffee, I'm reminded that today is.... Happy FALL! MY favorite time of year! Hello RTV Fanatics Unite fans! From Ricky the Rat, Rufus the Rat Terrier, And of course me, Catlover04! Hello RTV people, How are on you this fine but very rainy Sunday morning? It's supposed to pour all day - for me, an excuse to stay indoors. I don't mind weather like this. News on the upcoming reality TV for the fall... We're not too far away from the start of "Survivor 45". The website "Inside Survivor" has an article for "super fans" who have seen every season and miss early "Survivor": this year will remind you of "old school" (there's a link to the article, if anyone is interested). I think it was a conversation with Tyson A and a podcast producer. Didn't know Tyson HAD a podcast - but these days everyone has a podcast so I shouldn't be surprised. Survivor Producer Says 90-Minute Episodes Will 'Remind Fans of Older Seasons' - Inside Survivor But, Probst? It will only feel like old school Survivor to me if you restore the use of the phrase "Come on in, GUYS" and admit you were being an idiot when you dropped that phrase for "political correctness" reasons. That being said, this article has given me a reason to hope for a pretty great season. Or maybe I'm just ready for some NEW "Survivor" on my TV. Either way, I will spend some time looking for some good Dalton Ross EW teaser articles to post on the Survivor blog. My countdown timer tells me it's only ten days away. Also, a new "Australian Survivor" should be coming in January. Always look forward to this, but don't have a lot of details yet: only that the theme which is "Titans vs. Rebels". Hmm..... In other RTV news, "Traitors Australia Season Two" and "Traitors New Zealand Season One" have both finished. I was surprised to find I enjoyed New Zealand more of the two. Did anyone else watch either? Anyone at all? No word on when other versions of the series will get airtime. I checked UK and US; neither has confirmed start dates. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the US makes it exclusive to Peacock. It really should be a network show. With the ongoing writers strike, maybe they will change their minds. But they would first have to air season one for RTV fans who do not have Peacock. I recall last year at this time, there was a reboot of "The Mole" on Netflix. I've been trying to find news of season two. That HAS been given a go-ahead but no word on when. Stay tuned, I guess. And finally, "The Amazing Race 35" is also to air soon. This is always a fun show. In October, there will be a new "Amazing Race Australia" season. It will be a "celebrity" version (why?) and will have in its cast none other than King George and his sister. All "Australian Survivor" fans know who King George is (a self-appointed "king" who has never won a season). I might have to watch this one. That's all I've got. Time to move onto our TV week. Sunday, September 17th "The Chosen: I Saw You" Season 2 Episode 2, 8 pm to 9:30 pm on the CW A mysterious visitor seeks to meet Jesus, but the disciples are hesitant; tension builds between Simon and Matthew; as the group heads to a new city, word arrives that Jesus' fame is growing. I only have to read the episode title to know what the plot is (I've seen these so many times). We will be introduced to Philip and Nathaniel (#TeamComeAndSeeForYourself [AmazingRaceHumour]). Jesus to Nathaniel: "I saw you under the fig tree". "Yellowstone" Season 1 Premiere on network TV, CBS at 8:30 pm. John Dutton, patriarch of a Montana ranching family and owner of the largest ranch in the U.S., fights to defend his land and his family from the modern-day forces that threaten his way of life. If you were like me - never watched a single episode of "Yellowstone" and wondered if you were missing something huge - now is your chance to find out. However, "Big Brother" fans who do not want their show postponed till 10:30 tonight might find this an annoyance. "Big Brother", Season 25, Episode 20, 8 pm on CBS Seriously? 10:30 to 11:30 for what is traditionally the least important episode of the week (admittedly, we will find out who the new HOH is tonight, an especially important revelation this time)! Thank heavens this is just a one-time only event. "When Calls the Heart: What IS and What Should Never Be", Season 10 Episode 8, 9 pm on Hallmark. Elizabeth encourages Gowen to seek forgiveness from Rosaleen to heal old wounds; Montague continues to raise suspicion. So weird: when this series first began, Gowen was the biggest villain with the hardest of hearts. Now he's a teddy bear! Talk about a character arc change for the better. Monday, September 18th Still wide open. Plenty of stuff to catch up on though. For me: so many rom-coms, so little time! Tuesday, September 19th A quick glance at last week's page tells me "The Amazing Race Canada" is done... Nope. That was an error on our part. Tonight is the season finale. We are down to the final three teams: a heroic duo who survived a recent Canadian tragedy that left one member handicapped; a madly-in-love duo who we (okay, maybe just me) are praying will not surprise with a proposal on the final mat; and one duo (who, incredibly, are just friends and NOT twin brothers!) who might just be peaking at the right time. Prepare for challenges in scenic Nova Scotia! Seriously, network TV is giving us so little to chat about these days. Wednesday, September 20th "Big Brother", Season 25, Episode 21, 8 pm on CBS Will the two people on the block be changed? Is there a backdoor being planned? That will be discussed and planned and cancelled and re-planned several dozen times during the day. By people who sit around in their bathrobes until five o'clock in the afternoon! "Masterchef United Tastes of America: Finale Parts 1 and 2" Season 21, Episode 15 and 16 at 8 pm on Fox The final three home cooks take on their last challenge, with each chef whipping up a spectacular three-course meal; the judges crown the next champion. The finale is tonight, so it will be finished in time for "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race" to start next week. Will Jennifer - the one most of us thought should have been cut early but for some reason kept skating by - win? And why is it I can't even recall who is in the top three with her? Seriously, I'm drawing a blank #BrainFart. Oh well, moving on.... Thursday, September 21st "Big Brother", Season 25, Episode 22, 9 pm on CBS Double eviction night! Two HOH comps, two veto comps, two people walking out the door. Warning, players: this will be the best chance you'll get to evict Jared, because mom Cirie will not be able to fall on her sword to let him win (we all know she will do that if it's her only option). People! Did you put your lives on hold and work so hard just to come in third? Because Cirie and Jared are certainly planning that for all of you! Is anyone watching "The Buddy Games"? Because if NOT.... "Heartland: Head Over Heels", Season 16 Episode 11, Streaming exclusively on UpTV in the US Amy agrees to let Logan take the lead with a new client horse (uh, does this mean the "horse" belonging to a "new client", or the "new client" is a horse?) A furious Tim goes after the person responsible for Jack's accident (a furious Tim is a dangerous Tim! At least it is on "The Rookie"). Lou struggles to reconnect with Katie (after, you know, reading her private diary just to be nosy!) Remember WMisms? The above paragraph might be the last one we got to see. Hee hee. Special note to Ali: UpTV is starting the season sixteen episodes TONIGHT on the app, so episode eleven is finally available to stream. New ones will be on Thursdays, just like before. If you want to work it in at 9 pm, I'm game. If you would rather wait until Friday, I'm okay with that too. Just let me know. "The Challenge USA: A Less Perfect Union" Season 2 Episode 10, 10 pm on CBS WM? Sorry, I haven't watched this for a few weeks now. All I know is that Sea Bass and Challenge winner and physical powerhouse Tori might just be the oddest couple in reality TV history. And yes, I'm including all the woefully mismatched pairs we've seen on "The Bachelor"! Friday, September 22nd Wide open, but I'm sure there is a missed "rom com" I could catch up with. Yesterday, I did a page dedicated to seasonal rom coms. If you are one who just can't get enough of them, I'll keep these pages up-to-date all Christmas season.
