Hello RTV Fanatics Unite fans! From Ricky the Rat, Rufus the Rat Terrier, And of course me, Catlover04! Hello RTV people, How are you on this fine, cool, promising-to-be-a-beautiful-day Sunday morning? Fall is here and with it some new fall television - well, what little "new" there is. But what new there is will be FUN! Yes, there will be pretty minimal original "scripted". Luckily, we have our two favorite reality shows, "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race" starting up this week. We also have a never-ending slew of romantic comedies (which somehow didn't seem affected by the writer's strike at all). Last night's offering on Great American Family was much fun. But what makes it even more amusing is when I get to compare it to a more famous rom com with obvious similarities. Enjoy a movie and play a home-made game in a genre I love (and acknowledge that I've watched WAY too many Hollywood rom coms!) Last night's movie was entitled "Craft Me A Romance". It's direct predecessor was 1994's "You've Got Mail" . The story line was so similar I couldn't stop comparing. Of course it wasn't EXACTLY the same. There was no anonymous friendship as the undercurrent of the story (the case with "You've Got Mail"). It was a small, family-owned "craft" store being threatened by a national chain, not a bookstore. But the place, called "Crafty Companion", was literally the shop around the corner (the name of Meg Ryan's store in "You've Got Mail"). That's where the big box chain, "Mitchell's Craft Store" was building their new location. Naturally, the film used that phrase multiple times. Crafty Companion is a small store owned by Nicole and her brother, Eric (who is more of a silent partner; his primary job is as a local cop). Nicole inherited the shop from her parents (both have passed away). She was determined to carry on their vision for the store in their name: providing services such as crafting classes to keep the community involved, and driving in new business all the time. The Meg Ryan character did exactly that: "They don't provide any services... we DO!" Similarly, Meg inherited the store from her deceased mother, and was determined to honor her memory by honoring HER vision. The big box chain craft store is owned by a father/son team. When they learned of Crafty Companion (that "troublesome craft shop around the corner"), they decided they need to squash it before it becomes a problem. Son Matthew Mitchell is sent into the small store to check out this competition and figure out a way to get rid of it - just like Tom "Joe Fox" Hanks did ("My name is Joe"; Hanks character refused to give his last name so she wouldn't figure out who he was). Matthew doesn't give his last name either, for the same reason. But inevitably, when he enters the store for the first time, Matthew is captivated by Nicole - much in the same way Joe was captivated with Kathleen. That meant telling her who he was would be out of the question. Father Mitchell is the "heartless" villain (the same way father Fox was in "You've Got Mail"), demanding that Matthew squash the little store quickly or he'd do it himself. But Matthew really likes Nicole and doesn't want to hurt her, so he seeks a way to tell her on his own who he is and why he is there. Of course, they have three or four dates and begin falling deeply in love. Of course, her brother and best friend / business partner Sarah find out and demand he tell her himself or they would. No spoilers, but I can say that the comparison ends there. The movie was quite fun. You might recognize the star in the picture posted above, famous as the obnoxious "Full House" middle child, little Stephanie Tanner: Jodie Sweetin! I enjoyed this one a lot, and I'm sure I'll watch it again if the opportunity presents itself. We do have some new TV fun this week, so how about we move on.... Sunday, September 24th "The Chosen: Matthew 4:24" Season 2 Episode 3, 8 pm to 9:30 pm on the CW A long, exhausting day turns into night as the disciples help Jesus deal with a large crowd hoping to be healed. Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is pictured above. Here to meet her son's followers and help where she can. Because that's what mothers do. "Big Brother", Season 25, Episode 23, 8 pm on CBS Not going to bother with the "Yellowstone" announcement except to say... it IS bumping "Big Brother" to 10 pm again this week. Tonight we will see all the behind-the-scenes action there wasn't time to televise on Thursday night. And hopefully find out how this "zombie" twist is going to play out..... "When Calls the Heart: Deep Water", Season 10 Episode 9, 9 pm on Hallmark. Everyone helps Rosemary as the governor visits early; Nathan is called away to help with land trouble, only to find himself in unexpected danger and with surprising intel. Elizabeth is looking quite traumatized in that picture. Wonder what's UP in this episode. Visits from the governor wreak havoc everywhere they go. And when it's unexpectedly EARLY, well.... you can't blame Rosemary for being traumatized. Monday, September 25th "The Voice", Season 24 Premiere, Blind Auditions Begin, 8 to 10 pm on NBC The first "Blake Shelton-less" season ever. How will it be, I wonder? I'll probably watch; anyone care to join me? I imagine it WILL feel a lot different without any Blake banter. #BlakeBanter Tuesday, September 26th "Dancing With the Stars", Season 32 Episode 1 Premiere, 8 to 10 pm on ABC A new cast of celebrities and their pro partners hit the dance floor for the first time to perform a Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Jive, Salsa or Tango; featuring a dazzling opening number to "Levitating" by Dua Lipa. Back to the network we go, after a season of being banished to Disney Plus. No more Tyra Banks as host is a plus. Sadly, no Len Goodman as a judge either, as he passed away in April. This is another show that may feel different but I'll check it out. Anyone else? Of course, at the same time I have the week's second episode of "The Voice". Wonder if I'll be motivated to do both? And will anyone be motivated to chat along with either? Anyone? Wednesday, September 27th The night we've all been waiting for.... "Survivor: We Can Do Hard Things", Season 45 Episode 1, 8 to 9:30 pm on CBS We are just three days away from the premiere of a new season of Survivor. Finally, an opportunity for an active Live Chat. But tonight there's not just Survivor.... (Psst... btw, if you haven't visited the official Survivor blog page... please do. I don't want to feel like I've wasted a lot of my time. #HeeHeeHee) RTV Fanatics Unite - Survivor (weebly.com) "The Amazing Race" is BACK!", Season 35 Premiere, 9:30 pm to 11 pm. on CBS For the first time, a former team surprises racers as judges; one team member must traverse a tightrope stretched from one rooftop to another at the historic Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles before heading to their first location, Thailand. Won't it be fun to have back-to-back, ninety-minute episodes of both "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race"? These two shows are really the reason this site exists! (Psst... there was also a preview page for TAR, in case you missed it!) The Amazing Race Season 35 - A Look At The Cast - RTV Fanatics Unite (weebly.com) Wednesday night on RTV Fanatics Unite is the place to be, if you ask me! Of course, there is also "The Masked Singer" but since no one else cares.... I won't bother. Thursday, September 28th ABC seems to be doubling up on "The Bachelor" this fall... "The Golden Bachelor" AND "Bachelor In Paradise"... 8 pm and 9 pm on ABC
Uh, 8 P.M. and 9 P.M? Both shows have been reduced from two hours to one? Pretty sure this is a first in "Bachelor" history - and I, for one, am completely down with it! "Big Brother", Season 25, Episode 19, 8 pm on CBS Wait! If this is the eviction episode... when did the veto happen? We will find out on Sunday when the explanation of the "zombie" twist happens. Our guess is that both booted players from last Thursday's "double eviction" episode will come back and compete against each other to win a return to the house. It should be revealed tonight. "The Challenge USA: Enemy of the State" Season 2 Episode 11, 10 pm on CBS Anyone still watching? I think I forgot to do a page for it last week. Whoops. Friday, September 29th By now, we will have TWO episodes of season sixteen "Heartland" to catch up on. Perhaps on this Friday? Episodes eleven and twelve. Ready whenever you are. These are my rat musings for the day. If anyone has anything to add, please do so in the comments.
