Special Event/Holiday

Welcome to the Annual "The Sound of Music" Christmas (Even Though It Has Nothing To Do With Christmas" Watch Tonight is the night! It has become an annual tradition on this site ever since WM and I discovered we share a love for this beautiful sixties movie based on the true story of the Von Trapp family's escape from Austria during the Nazi onslaught. Ali plays along. And of course, anyone else is welcome to join in.
Every year, network TV decides to grace us with an airing of this movie at Christmas time - even though it really isn't about Christmas at all. It's not even set in that season; it takes place in spring (I think). No mention of Christmas. NO reference at all, unless you count the lyric "Brown paper packages tied of with string". But one reference to a gift does not a Christmas movie make. And yet, every year, it is included on network TV as a "Holiday" classic. One of those things we both LOVE and are a bit confused about with this movie - which I consider to be one of the finest musicals of all time. Anyway, if you'd care to join us, the movie starts at 7 pm on ABC.

Hello The Sound of Music Fans, Come one, come all for our annual "The Sound of Music" Live Chat during the Christmas season for this wonderful classic film.... which is in NO WAY a Christmas movie. Not a one. No way whatsoever. Yes, this is a conversation had every single year, but does that deter us from making this an annual Christmas EVENT? Absolutely not. It is one of the greatest musical movies of all time based on a true story of the Von Trapp Family Singers. Julie Andrews at her best. Christopher Plummer at his... sort of; I've read he actually didn't much care for this role. All those beautiful children. All those wonderful songs! "The HILLS are alive, with the sound of music" "Edelweiss, Edelweiss... every morning we greet you" "Climb Every Mountain; search high and low" "Do, a deer, a female deer...." "I am sixteen, going on seventeen... " "There's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall and the bells in the steeple tooo... " Ah... .so many wonderful songs. So join us for our annual "The Sound of Music" watch at 7 pm! (I might be a little late)... watch! |
