Hello RTV Fanatics Unite fans! From Ricky the Rat, Rufus the Rat Terrier, And, of course me, Catlover04! "Good morning, RTV people, Hope you all had a good week. TV-wise, there just isn't a whole lot to be excited about this week. In fact, most of the television I've been enjoying lately has been on my "Frndly" app. Not sure what it says about how I feel about the network TV of TODAY that sometimes I actually prefer spending an evening with classics from the past. And I do... but I'll leave that right there, for now. Recently, the Frndly App added a few channels - and with no big price hike! I find it's still the best deal out there for streamers: $5.99 for the cheapest package and $9.99 for the most expensive (which really just gives you the nine month DVR, plus everything in HD.) I like best the sub-channels to regular network TV with great line-ups of fun such as "METV" (which I can actually access with our antenna but now I can DVR if I want); "Decades" (which I had never heard of before), similar to METV with classic TV sub-channels accessible with a good antenna some places; and "H&I" (Heroes and Icons), more classic TV. "Stories" is all documentaries and history (in fact, I think some of what shows up there originally aired on the History channel). There might be some original content there too; not really sure. What I DIDN'T know is that all these sub-channels we now get with a really good antenna are owned by the same company, Weigel. The success of METV seemingly makes them want to cover every possible TV genre! This is not why I pay for Frndly though. I pay the ten bucks a month to have access to GAC Family, Hallmark and UpTV (it also has INSP, Lifetime which is an odd choice for a streaming site supposed to be family friendly; just saying), the History Channel and a few others. All this classic TV fun is just a bonus. Speaking of GAC Family and Hallmark. Big news this week when it was announced that the contract of Candace Cameron Bure (the "face" of Hallmark, especially during Christmas for the last ten years) has ended. Instead of renewing with the same company, she has made the move to GAC Family, signing a long-term contract and committing to both starring and producing projects for them. Huge win for GAC; huge loss for Hallmark. You all know Candace, famous as the "Full House" oldest daughter DJ Tanner. GAC has had quite a few Hallmark names make the switch: Danika McKeller, for one (the original Winnie Cooper). Also heard this week that the first new Christmas movie this year on GAC will star Daniel Lissing ("When Calls the Heart" fans know him as Elizabeth's beloved Jack Thornton). Yep, GAC Family is the place to be for me. Right now it's mostly - you guessed it - classic TV. There hasn't been a lot of original content since the end of Christmas season. But soon there will be. It takes a while to build a network, I guess. I know.. none of you care at all about this stuff. Why am I rambling about it? Because there really isn't much else to talk about concerning this week's TV. And I've done "weather rambling" to death (for the record, North Carolina is having a lovely spring day). Let's get to talking about the TV week anyway, shall we? Sunday, April 24th I'm not sure why I completely gave up on "American Idol". I missed a bunch of episodes and now I just really don't care to catch up. Might watch the final episodes, but it's hard to get excited when you haven't spent time getting to know the contestants. We'll see.... "The Rookie: Simone", Season 4 Episode 19, 10 pm on ABC Episode synopsis reads like this: Officer Nolan and the LA division of the FBI enlist the help of FBI trainee Simone Clark when one of her former students is suspected of terrorism following an explosion at a local power station. I might have a conflict with this tonight. We will see; a chat page will be done. Monday, April 25th Wide open, as far as I can see.... Maybe I WILL dive into that first season of "Hudson and Rex" on the UPTV Faith and Friendly app. A Canadian cop show which stars a German Shepherd. Now tell me, WM... how is it you haven't watched this (I have. Great dog, but the episodes all seem alike after a while) Shocking! And why am I just now hearing about this show (Huh? Whimsicali and I used to talk about it all the time (there were ads advertising an especially Rex-heavy adventure as "Hudson and Reckless"). Perhaps it was only on chats that only the two of us watched?) Unfortunately, right now only season one is available. I did some research and found there ARE plans to show the rest; but I'll be very frustrated if I get through the first then never get access to the rest. Shall I wait, or go ahead? We shall see, I guess. Tuesday, April 26th "This Is Us: The Night Before the Wedding" Season 6 Episode 14, 9 pm on NBC Episode synopsis reads like this: The night before Kate's wedding, Kevin's love life takes an unexpected turn. We DO have the last episodes of "This Is Us" to look forward to. This Kevin-centered episode will finally answer the question, which of these lovely ladies did he FINALLY end up with? The wedding singer (who we just met; seems unlikely to me they would end his story with someone so new)? Cassidy - the struggling military veteran who he met while finding Uncle Nicky? Or Sophie - his first love (and first wife)? None of these actresses have ever been full time cast members. So who will it be? And let me go on record to say I'm sad that Madison isn't an option (instead of some random wedding singer we've never met). Yes, she married someone else and had a child with him, much to my frustration. I wanted her to marry the father of her children (why would you marry someone who couldn't say he loved you? Isn't that kind of a minimal requirement to meet before you commit to spending the rest of your lives together?) but the show didn't go that way, sadly.... My heart sort of wants it to be Sophie. He has known her the longest. First love. First wife. Has reconnected with her time and again throughout the series. Seems a good ending to have him reconcile with her. Cassidy has been a friend to him; but mostly in the "one-night-stand" sort of way. I never really thought there would be a permanent relationship with them. And he just met the wedding singer so my heart can't be on her side. I'm going with Sophie. Whoever it is, I'm sure our two sleuths will have it figured out by episodes end (well to be fair, the two sleuths are only trying to figure out who Kevin spent last night with. That might not necessarily be who he ends up with for the rest of his life....) I think it's wonderful that with the series ending on the heart-breaking note of Rebecca slipping into Alzheimer's disease, there is also a place to make us smile with these kinds of funny subplots. For me, Madison and Beth almost stole the show from Kate's wedding in the last episode. Give these two their own spin-off, pronto! ANNOUNCEMENT! Next week (not this week, but on May 3rd), all fans of "Holey Moley".... ... must show up at 8 pm for the premiere of the "Holey Moley" fourth season. This show is always good for a few summertime giggles. Wednesday, April 27th "Survivor Season 42: Game of Chicken", Episode 9, 8 pm on CBS Episode synopsis reads like this: One castaway is the last standing in the fight for immunity and earns a spot in the final eight. The funniest episode synopsis I've seen in a while from Zap2It. This same sentence could be made for every single ninth episode of "Survivor" (and for MOST of the internationals - except Australia, they don't always boot a player out of the game at the end). HA HA. Lazy synopsis writers. Can't recall any details from the preview for the upcoming week (four different names were brought up as targets. But not Jonathan. Hmm....) Maybe we will get a good "Previously on" (Chanelle got voted out). Nah... don't hold your breath. Hee hee. Go Johnathan. "Beyond the Edge: Hips Don't Lie", Season 1 Episode 7, 9 pm on CBS Episode synopsis reads like this: With only six celebrities remaining, they work in pairs to solve a puzzle about pop culture; one celebrity worries that their physical pain is making them a liability to the others and thinks about ringing the bell. I would ask for an update from WM but I don't think he can provide one any more than I can...(Colton is still in first. That's the extent of my knowledge) "Domino Masters: Quarter Finals Bill Nye Night", 9 pm on Fox Episode synopsis reads like this: In the last night before the semifinals, three teams create topples with a science theme, featuring guest judge Bill Nye; the two teams whose topples come out on top continue on to the semifinals. Sad there is no live chat for this very fun show. As we mentioned sometime this week; it's a complete education of math, science and storytelling all in one massive topple. I get so fascinated with these elaborate builds. Can't wait to see the final shows. Thursday, April 28th "Masterchef Junior Edition: Motocross Mayhem", Season 19 Episode 6, 8 pm on Fox Episode synopsis reads like this: The top ten chefs head to a secret destination for their challenge; the strongest communicators are picked as team captains (they have to shout out instructions to blindfolded chefs? Yikes!), as they compete to create the best American-style comfort dishes for a team of very hungry motor sports racers. I actually made it here on time this week... but didn't do a page. Still enjoying it. And found that when this ends, the adult "Masterchef" begins with former contestants getting a second chance. Maybe we can work out a chat for this version? Friday, April 29th I suppose that Ali and I will continue our watch of "Raising Dion". But other than that, no chats planned here. Maybe I'll find another enjoyable movie as I did last week after the "Raising Dion" watch. On UpTV, I watched "Faith, Hope and Love", a heartwarming, inspirational faith-based movie which starred one of our favorite DWTS alums, Peta Murgatroyd. What a lovely surprise this movie turned out to be, in so many ways: Peta, perfect in the starring role. There was Max, seen briefly as her cheating ex (funny, he is her husband in real life). And also.... Kramer! You remember Michael Richards as Kramer from "Seinfeld". Haven't seen him do anything other than Kramer.. EVER! Lovely story. Lovely message. Lovely dancing. Lovely movie all the way around. It made me think of our poster Polly. Should email her to see if she has ever seen this. These are my rat musings for the day. If anyone has anything to add, please do so in the comments.
