Hello RTV Fanatics Unite fans! From Ricky the Rat, Rufus the Rat Terrier, And, of course me, Catlover04! Happy first day of MAY! Hello RTV people, I don't know how you are spending your Saturday night. But for me, I'm binge-watching season four of "When Calls the Heart"! It's one of the finest Hallmark productions of all time. Well, I'm a bit biased. This series is based on beloved books by Christian author Jeanette Oke - which I read and loved many years ago. And while it doesn't follow the books THAT well - truthfully, it doesn't at all - the show is still very well done. The reason I am only on season four (while Hallmark is currently airing season nine) is an interesting tale. I didn't have Hallmark for many years and was only able to watch this series on Netflix. Yet for some odd reason, Netflix seemed to lose the rights to new episodes after season five. In fact, the first five seasons stayed on the network a long time after season six aired. Then season seven, season eight... then finally it left Netflix. The only way to continue viewing after the HUGE season five ending (it finished on a heartbreaking note - which, by the way, I do not recall happening in the books), was to actually pay per episode on Prime - which I didn't want to do. It wasn't available on Hallmark Movies Now. Not on demand on normal Hallmark. A new season would air on Hallmark then disappear after. Now, HMN (which I have access to through Frndly) is finally airing the full series, including the current season nine. So while the rest of the world is enjoying the new season as it airs (and discussion pages are full of people enjoying the experience), I'm playing catch-up. I went back to season one to remember all the lovely details from the start. Funny: watching this is making me want to re-live that wonderful Syfy show "Eureka". Why? Because so far I've counted three cast members from that show. Full time player Kavan Smith, lovable Deputy Andy (Robot Sheriff); season four cast member Niall Matter (Zane, that lovable bad boy genius who fell in love with Jo), and one time guest spot - the one I happen to be watching now - Chris Gauthier (Vincent, the guy who ran the restaurant. If you've never seen "Eureka", you are missing out. There are lots of places to stream it: Imdb Free or Prime (can't recall which), and Peacock, to name a couple. Okay, enough rambling for now... moving on to our TV week. Sunday, May 1st I have something I need to do for a bit this evening, but I should be home in plenty of time for.... "The Rookie: Enervo", Season 4 Episode 20, 10 pm on ABC Episode synopsis reads like this: The team, alongside the LA division of the FBI, is in a race to stop bombs that have been scattered throughout the city by a suspected terrorist; the joint task force is suspicious of the CIA's involvement in the situation. The second half of the potential "Rookie" spin-off, starring another veteran rookie, Simone. As I recall, last week left off on a pretty big cliffhanger. Monday, May 2nd Well, considering I've completely lost track of American Idol and don't seem to care, Monday is wide open. I see a couple of WCTH episodes in my evening. I'm sure as the weeks unfold, we will get some summer shows. But for now, it's looking pretty bleak. Except for this one... Tuesday, May 3rd "Holey Moley, It's the Muppets!" Season 4, Premiere, 8 pm on ABC Episode synopsis reads like this: Special guests The Muppets; eight contestants face off for the golden putter, coveted plaid jacket and a spot in the finals. "Holey Moley" is always silly, goofy fun... but sometimes they slip into TOO stupid, as they did a couple of seasons ago with the "diving" thing. Here's hoping they find the proper balance for season four. "This Is Us: Miguel" Season 6 Episode 15, 9 pm on NBC Episode synopsis reads like this: "Miguel over the years". So happy to have a Miguel-centered episode. This is a FIRST - and long overdue, in my opinion. Yes, we do know quite a bit about this character. We know he was a good friend of Jack's when they were younger. We know they worked together at the same company for a while. We know that he was married before and had children from his first marriage, but he got divorced, and his ex moved away with the kids somewhere. Do we know where or how involved he was with them over the years? I'm sure that by the time he and Rebecca had reconnected, the kids were grown up. While we had never seen him spending time with them, I'm sure he did. Miguel was a good man; I'm sure he did his best to raise his children, even if the show hasn't made it a priority for the audience to see. That's understandable - the show is all about the Pearson kids; the BIG THREE, not Miguel's kids. Perhaps we will learn a little about his first family in this episode. Wednesday, May 4th "Survivor Season 42: Tell a GOOD Lie; Not a STUPID Lie", Episode 10, 8 pm on CBS Episode synopsis reads like this: One castaway lands a win in the reward challenge, earning a chance to nurture social bonds during a pivotal moment in the game. Do you think the player pictured is the one who says this line? Or is he the one telling the stupid lie that receives this comment from someone else? I guess we shall find out. "Beyond the Edge: Bird Brain", Season 1 Episode 8, 9 pm on CBS Episode synopsis reads like this: One celebrity rings the bell before the start of a challenge; two captains step up to lead teams through the jungle, navigating natural and man-made obstacles, to reach a bird-viewing deck and decipher a bird-themed phrase. So, I guess Stephanie Tanner - why is her real name escaping me right now? - (Jodie Sweetin) got over her ear thing and didn't leave the game last week? Didn't watch it... just saw a preview of last week's episode. "Domino Masters: Hot Wheels" Season 1 Semi-Final, 9 pm on Fox Episode synopsis reads like this: Four teams compete in an unbelievable domino toppling and chain reaction tournament with a Hot Wheels theme. Hot wheels will be a fun theme! Wow, just put a pair of shades on that nerdy, science geek judge (who happens to be a champion at this Domino stuff) and look how it brings out the "cool". Heh. Thursday, May 5th "Masterchef Junior Edition: Jalepeno Business", Season 19 Episode 7, 8 pm on Fox The nine remaining junior chefs must create one of the most popular fried, feisty and spicy finger foods. Eeeek! I hate cooking with jalapenos! Wear gloves, kids, and whatever you do... do NOT touch your face or any exposed part of your body with a seed or anything. Jalapenos can do a number on you when it touches your skin directly. We have some experience with this in our family. It wasn't pretty. "Big Sky: Keys to the Kingdom", Season 2 Episode 16, 10 pm on ABC Episode synopsis reads like this: Relationships are put to the test all over town as Jenny senses something is off with Travis; Ren and Jag's suspicions of their father and Alicia grow; Cassie, Jerrie and Lindor find themselves at a crossroads. WM? Your favorite show seems to be back. But didn't it used to be on Tuesday? Hmm. Maybe I'm confused. No, it's always been Thursday night at ten. I'm thrilled that it's back, but must make a point of watching a few previous episodes to get caught up on where we left off. Friday, May 6th "Raising Dion", Season 2: Finally! Now that we have finished our re-watch of season one, Ali and I will move on to season two. Will I enjoy it as much now that I realize there will be no Jason Ritter any more? He was the main reason I watched it in the first place. Unless I'm wrong, and he somehow makes an appearance? I guess we will find out on Friday.
These are my rat musings for the day. If anyone has anything to add, please do so in the comments.
