Hello Survivor fans, Since EW is having issues with their comment section, I thought I'd do something I don't normally do: give us a separate recap page. And if you are so inclined... here is a link to Dalton's recap (which has already been posted but seems to be missing its comment section): https://ew.com/tv/recaps/survivor-season-40-episode-4/ _____________________ My versions of recaps are generally far too long-winded, far too detailed and far lacking in analysis. So... just going to hit the highlights and leave the analysis to anyone who cares to comment. Sele Tribe Show opens with the sad aftermath of the Ethan blindside, and the apology tour of Adam, who now realizes that he screwed up badly. It becomes not only an apology tour (for everyone on the tribe) but also his re-invention as the camp worker bee, trying to get back in the good graces of all he betrayed (or who HE felt had betrayed him!) Adam: "I revealed MY plan to vote out Parvati to Boston Rob - and he betrayed ME!" (Okay, let's just rewind this again....yep, that is indeed what he said) Now Adam - how excatly does that work??? Anyway.... We get a confessional from Ben, who acknowledges that as much of a weasel as ADAM is, BR and Parvati are much bigger threats. Which begs the question... ...then why didn't you and Michelle take down one of THEM last episode instead of Ethan?? You could have. You had the numbers. Will you ever get such an easy chance again? This is a question I've been pondering all week, while valadega was pondering only a shirtless Wendell. Dekal Tribe Over on Dekal, we have Yul going on an early morning hugging tour. Good morning hugs for all on his tribe. He's happy. Encouraged. Everyone living in the illusion that they are all good friends. Then Yul tells us he has a solid four alliance with Nick, Wendell and Sophie - and he doesn't think anyone knows about it. Edge of Extinction We also learn that from the Dekal beach, they can SEE the Edge of Extinction. Interesting. I wonder if that was possible last season too - until the tribe realized that meant watching Reem all day long and stopped bothering to look. At the edge, the four have found a box which gives them a challenge. A grueling challenge. They must move twenty pieces of firewood from the top of the steps back down to camp. One piece at a time. Before sundown? Natalie: "Twenty trips? For ONE fire token?" I mean, that DOES seem a bit unreasonable to me too. Natalie is a fierce, one hundred percent focused competitor. It looked like she was barely struggling at all, keeping the same pace the entire time. She was the first to finish. But she collapsed in the water and burst into tears when she was done. Danni first compared it to running a marathon, then later to giving birth. Amber struggled hard, but got it done too. And when she was finished, she was also reduced to tears. Ethan's was the biggest struggle. Pure exhaustion nearly caused him to faint with four more trips left to go. Medical was called in (a new female doctor, but not the much-missed Doctor Ramona). He was given a good rest. And then... he kept going. Because he's Ethan. Found it very moving that in the final leg of his journey, all three of the ladies - Natalie, Amber and Danni - were so inspired, they walked his final leg up the steps with him. It was pure joy to see that kind of support for Ethan. He's a tremendous human that we all love and respect. Is there a Nobel prize for inspiration? Sele Tribe Boston Rob and Parvati decide they need to protect themselves by throwing Adam even further under the bus than he has already placed himself. Last week Ethan gave Parvati his fire token. She is happy to have that and would like to use it somehow to avenge his blindside. Adam has talked to the power duo and they know he is playing both sides. What do they do? They make up a story about him to tell Jeremy and Michelle, successfully getting the two of them angry enough at Adam to want to cut him loose. And THIS, Adam... is why you do not attempt to double cross the Godfather. Dakal Camp Some weird goings-on at the kum-bah-yah camp with Tyson and Sarah smelling each others breath. "Now...why?" is my only question. Lots of fun happening here. Sarah admits that she is seeing this Survivor beach as a fun little playground for now. That Sarah - she's all about the fun. And she likes Tyson. Tyson is a lot more realistic. He sees that some of the BIG players - who everyone SHOULD be worried about - seem to be playing so far under the radar that no one even knows they are there. He talks to Sandra and Tony. Tony has nothing to say (a first in history!) He nods but doesn't speak (let me repeat that: he nods but doesn't speak). Sandra says her usual "I'll do anything as long as it's not me" but she's giving him a smokescreen there. She wants him to think she is agreeing with him. But the truth is Sandra wants him gone. "You best hope we win this challenge because if we don't, you are gone!" she tell us in a confessional. Immunity Challenge The challenge: four tribe members are attached to a boat with three players in it. They will pull the boat to a tower, then climb up and jump a good distance from the platform to a pole with keys hanging on it. Use keys to unlock puzzle pieces. First to assemble the puzzle wins reward. Reward is chickens. And immunity is up for grabs. Sandra volunteers to sit out, as usual. Tony also volunteers. They take their seat on the newly-christened "Sandra-Sit-Out-Bench". Details of challenges are hard to relay. Both tribes are fairly even arriving at the tower. Getting the keys proves difficult for Sele. Dekal gets their three fairly quickly. Dekal gets to the puzzle first while Adam, Denise and Parvati struggle to get their keys. Adam has gotten two of them. Parvai and Denise just cannot get it done. Uh, Sele? Perhaps assigning this task to players with a bit of height may have helped you? Meanwhile at Dekal, Nick and Sarah work on the puzzle. Finally, Adam manages to get that last key while Probst is calling this "The BIGGEST blowout in Survivor history!" Never a man for hyperbole, that Probst. Never. Sele gets to the puzzle. Boston Rob and Michelle will perform this task. Surprisingly, Dekal has not yet made much progress, despite the big lead. Sele catches up quickly. BR and Michelle make very fast progress and.... SELE WINS IMMUNITY!!! Dekal Camp The scrambling begins to determine who will be voted out to the Edge of Extinction. Tyler makes a case to everyone against Nick. He believes they ALL are on board. But... ...Wendell: "All of our eyes are on Tyson. He's one of the greats. People call him the best player who ever voted HIMSELF out! He's the biggest threat on the beach because he is well connected on the other side. We can ditch Nick any time we want." Nick is told that Tyson is gunning for him. Yul assures him that he is fine, but omits a comforting hug. Apparently Yul hugs are limited to the A.M. hours. "All votes are on Tyson". Tyson warns Tony that he should be concerned too. Tony would rather get rid of Nick because Tyson is not just an ally, he is a shield. He talks to Sarah and Kim who both agree that it should be Nick. They need to convince Sandra. Tony tries to convince her. She is reluctant because she has already been betrayed by Tyson in this game. From Sandra: "I like revenge, but I like two million dollars more." Tribal Council A lot of talk about not revealing the groups within the group. Heh. Some of the youngersters admit to being "star struck" with players that they all know and respect. They all agree they were told a plan. "We are all on exactly the same page and we are all on different pages maybe". This from Tyson. Vote happens: Nick, Kim, Tyson, Tyson, Tyson, Tyson, Tyson... It is Tyson who is voted out and sent to the Edge of Extinction. Before he leaves, he reads the note about bequeathing his fire token: "I'd rather just swallow it!" we hear him say before he drops it into Nick's box. Why Nick, I wonder? Next week? A tribe swap is a coming! And Michelle is stuck on a tribe with one of her three ex-boyfriends!

Hello Survivor fans, Welcome to Survivor Wednesday! Not going to take the time to NGH or initiate a game - because last week I almost made myself late to work doing that and no one played! So today, we will just let the conversation begin organically on whatever you all wish to discuss. Now, if WM wanted to NGH... I'd be happy to let him. Heh. After the heartbreak of last week - losing Ethan to the Edge of Extinction! - and then having to worry about him for seven days after the preview indicates a medical issue (maybe - gasp! - a medevac?) I'm ready for some entertaining Survivor this week. Will Boston Rob and Parvati find a way to "pay back" Adam for his treachery? Will Adam, after completely blowing his opportunity to take control by assuming he could outsmart BR, realize he is absolutely no match for the Godfather? Can he find another plan for success? Is it swap week? Hmm... unsure (maybe the producers want to genuinely surprise us by not showing this on the preview?) It should be soon. All these questions and more will be answered tonight during episode 4 of "Survivor: Winners at War". Only game for this week: the "Who said the episode title?" quiz. Sounds like something BR would say... in response to losing his buddy and fellow "old school" player Ethan. Gotta go but WILL be on hand for the chat tonight. Who wants to live chat "Survivor Winners at War" at 8 pm? Hello Australian Survivor fans, Well, considering it might be difficult for me to fully participate in any group watches this week, I think I'm going to go ahead and start episodes 13, 14 and 15. If anyone is around and interested in chatting along, that's nice. Otherwise, I'll just go ahead and spoiler tag any comments I want to make. Still planning the group watch to be on this page, on this schedule: Thursday 9 pm for episode 13 Friday at 8 pm for episodes 14 and 15. Anyone care to play along? |
