Come On In, GUYS!! Beginning of Mini Recap... ... though I admit, it might not be much of one. I'm lacking motivation but never fear: even if chatting at EW is something you don't want to do, Dalton's recap is always a fun read. Here is a link if you care to join in. Think I'll read - or skim - through it and see if I can find some motivation. Survivor 41 episode 9 recap: Double trouble | EW.com Well, the first several paragraphs are about Liana's hatred of Xander's face. How much needs to be said about that? (Dalton knows no limits!) I'm just going to keep this simple and let WM work his magic tomorrow. Show starts with Naseer and Heather. Her antics at the last tribal council left Naseer thinking she cannot be trusted. I understand where HE is coming from, but I must say: I was baffled about the need to boot Heather. She's had very little impact on the game - and the one time she tried, she failed badly. There are other choices who are far more game-savvy and dangerous. #Curious. At the challenge they were split up into two teams of five. Now bring on a gruelling endurance challenge Survivor is so famous for! Two teams were: Danny, Evvie, Liana, DaShawn and Xander, Ricard, Shan, Erica, Heather, and Naseer Last person standing for each tribe gets immunity. Losing team goes to tribal first and votes out one player. Winning tribe is rewarded with a nice lunch and the second visit to tribal. Didn't take long for people to drop like flies from this exhausting challenge. Erica lasted longest of all the blue team, but couldn't (or didn't care to) stay up long enough to be in the running for the food reward ("Ah, screw them. They left me alone for two days on Exile Island. I'll show THEM what hunger feels like!") That left Xander and DaShawn to battle it out for victory. Both guys gave all they could, but in the end it was Xander who pulled out the win (much to the frustration of Liana, who for whatever reason has a strange obsession with hating Xander and his face. Seriously, WTH??) See Dalton's recap for his dissertation on what possible reason she could have for hating his face. Spoiler: It's not so much his actual face but the fact that his face is still in the game when she has been warning what a threat he is since DAY FIVE (when she tried to convince Shan to boot out him instead of David Voce). The interesting part of this episode was the post challenge/pre-tribal parts. Still in the same teams and separated at two different camps, we got a back-and-forth look at the way they decided just who to vote for. It was edited well, increasing the tension for the two tribals. For the group of Xander, Danny, DaShawn, Liana and Evvie, it was clear that Evvie was the target. Xander has immunity and is also holding an idol. He's not going anywhere, and they aren't voting him out with an idol in his pocket. The most chuckle-worthy part of this was the idea that Liana - after all her distrust of Xander and her obvious hatred of him (which, by the way, is also is very clear to HIM, Liana. Jeez, it's just a game, girl!) - she was so concerned he might play the idol to save Evvie that she asked him to hand the idol over to her to hold; you know, in case he succumbed to the temptation save Evvie. Huh? WTH?Second time in this game that an interaction between Xander and Liana made her look foolish. Hey, maybe I know the reason why she hates his face so much! But Ricard, Shan, Heather, Erica and Naseer seemed split in their thinking. Control freak Shan wanted Heather (I don't know, maybe because of... the mastermind that she is? Because she's such a threat to win challenges?) Hmm. There is no possible reason why Heather should be the target here - but for Shan it's time to cut her loose. Ricard correctly saw things differently. Now was not the time to cut a "no-threat to win anything" player like Heather. It's time vote out a potential victor. Or at least one (besides Shan) holding an idol. Yes, they are describing Naseer. Now, I really like Naseer. I was rooting for him to do well. But Ricard is not wrong here. With only five players voting, it was easier to gather votes against a big threat. Shame the top tier settled on Naseer and the bottom tier didn't rally together and blindside Shan or Ricard. Now Ricard is facing the difficult task of convincing Shan that she is wrong, the better plan is not the one she is pushing for. Let me repeat: Ricard now has to CONVINCE SHAN THAT SHE IS WRONG! Tribal council begins, losing team first. The most amusing part: a player mentions that who is holding idols is common knowledge. So Probst asks, in the most incredulous tone imaginable, "Why does everyone know what everyone has?" Gee, Probst... wonder how THAT happened? Take a moment and give it some thought. It's not like anyone had to say a ridiculous phrase into front of all the tribes to activate a hidden immunity idol, is it? Once everyone returns from the voting booth, the vote is six / six split - in a tribe of five. Hmm. How can this be? Oh, those damn advantages! Shan had that extra vote that she decided to play. But instead of putting two votes on Heather to get her way, she split them: one for Heather, one for Naseer. Why would she do this? The only thing I can think of is that she wasn't confident that just two votes would be enough to get Heather. She wanted to put an extra one on her just in case - then put one on Naseer so that she could honestly say to Ricard that she voted with him. Yes, Shan has often proven that she cares little about honesty in this game - but Ricard IS her main alliance. (Actually Catlover, it was fear of Nadeer playing his idol and the votes shifting that prompted Shan's split votes) I could be way off on this.. who knows why Shan does anything? But a tie vote occured, a second vote followed, and with that, Naseer was voted off with an idol in his pocket. Bring on the tribe of Xander, Liana, DaShawn, Danny and Evvie! This vote seemed more straightforward. I did wonder if Xander MIGHT use his idol on Evvie, since it had to be clear to him that Evvie would be the target. But no, there would be no second save for Evvie. We can debate whether he should or shouldn't have to keep at least one ally in place - or was better keeping his idol to use another day. I personally fall in the "Good he kept the idol" camp. Still rooting for "Xander the underdog" (or "Under the xanderdog") to win... despite the "confessional" burp (it's the mother in me!), which I admit brought a laugh. Check out Dalton's recap if you want a more detailed one. See link above. ![]() Beginning of Live Chat... no mini-NGH this week. aww.
Episode synopsis reads like this: A castaway is singled out for a dishonest game; immunity and reward are on the line. Who will be singled out, and who says "Who's Who In The Zoo?" If I had to guess, I'd sat Shan is singled out (DaShawn's distrust of her makes me think this). Weird that I recall nothing about last Wednesday's preview of next week. As for who says the quote... hmm... no idea. Well, we know it isn't witty enough for Xander. I'll guess Evvie for no other reason than I can sort of hear her say something like that. I need context. #IDemandContext! It IS disappointing to learn that, if Tiffany's version is correct, Xander wasn't the one most responsible for the Knowledge-Is-Power move. Wasn't Tiffany plotting against Xander just the week before? Now she wants to work against Liana to save his idol from being stolen? I guess it was more about saving Evvie from being voted out. But still... (It was about saving their small three-person alliance. They had just three, easy pickens for the majority. They needed anything they had to protect themselves). Tiff qualified her statement that it was she and Evvie's idea. I CAN believe that Evvie helped put this plan together since it was mostly HER game on the line. Still wondering if it was Tiffany's brainchild though. Will we ever REALLY know the truth? Heh. I guess the truth in this case is defined by who is telling the story. Now it's Wednesday, and I'm running late so no real time for an NGH. Whoops. My days are confused. No longer working Mondays any more, and last Monday the whole family was home so we did a day trip together. That made it feel like a weekend. Everything yesterday at work felt like a Monday so last night I completely forgot that today was "Survivor" day and gave no brain time to an NGH. Just wasn't thinking. Maybe WM has a brilliant idea. If not, well I guess we are taking a break for a week. Who wants to live chat "Survivor" at 8 pm?
